Headaches and dizziness may occur during detox as a result of toxin removal and the body adapting to altered energy and macronutrient intake. This is a common detoxification symptoms that will generally pass after a few days as the body readjusts and effectively expels toxins. However, there are a number of ways you can help this process:
Increase water and herbal tea intake: this helps to increase toxin flushing. Go easy on black and green tea as the caffeine levels may exacerbate headaches.
Select veggies, fruit and snacks that are highest in fibre: Prioritise pear, strawberries, apples, artichoke, beetroot, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, cabbage and ryvita. Fibre helps bind to toxins and support their elimination from the body. Fibre also positively feeds our gut bacteria which then influences headaches via pain pathways.
Breathe deeply: Deep belly breathing (breathe in for 5 seconds, hold for 5 seconds, breathe out for 5 seconds, hold for 5 seconds and repeat) supports oxygen uptake and blood flow for enhanced nutrient delivery and toxin removal, as well as supporting healthy pain signals. These processes can all help to reduce headaches.
